Poultry

Our future rooster. Just a baby right now!

The Chickens

We started with a Barred Rock and an Easter Egger from Callahan's General Store. They were bought as adults. Soon we added two ISA Browns from a local person who was selling them (also adults), and a Red Star who was offered for free along with the materials that we built the coop out of.

Toast, the Red Star, is not a good layer but she is a very social chicken and is a bit of a mascot. She frequently invites herself into the house. Silly bird.

We were recently joined by a game hen. She lays the cutest little white eggs.

Very timid little lady, but seems content here!

We also have 12 chicks right now. They are now 7 weeks old and are doing great. There are 5 Delawares and 7 Buff Orpingtons

We have a simple coop that we built 100% from free materials, a run that was here when we bought the property, and the chickens free range all day every day. They are only locked in at night.
